Please Share Your Leather Care Advice!

Hi All!  I've just received these boots as an early Christmas present from my husband, and I can't wait to show you how fantastic they are in an outfit post.

However, I'm hoping you'll share your leather care advice so I can properly treat the leather before I take them out in the elements.  I've read online that some people use beeswax, and there are a lot of different treatments you can purchase at the store, so I am curious what method of weatherproofing has worked best for you.

If you have a treatment or a product that you've had good success with, please share it in the comments!  Thanks, and I hope you all have a great weekend!

I've always found that beeswax is the most reliable leather treatment, and it's less chemically and gross than some other leather treatment options. I've also used mink oil leather treatment before and had pretty good results, especially on untreated leather.

Good luck! I love the boots!

Those are awesome boots! I just have a waterproofing spray meant for leather boots that I used. Once I tried using the same waterproofing beeswax as I use on my hiking boots, and it left a weird residue on the boots that wouldn't buff out. Ever since then I've been wary...

Also, be careful what socks you wear with them! Especially if the leather is quite thin, if you wear thick socks in the winter then it will stretch out and the shoes will be slightly too big when you wear thin socks or tights (another mistake I have made in the past!).

I also store mine laying down, not standing up, so gravity isn't working against the leather and causing it to prematurely sag. You could get the plastic boot-storing molds (?) so you can store them standing up without stretching, but I find that storing them carefully laid on their sides works just as well.

I can't wait to see them in an outfit post!

I'm a bit late to add my two cents, but I swear by Apple Leather Care and Apple Garde Rain and Stain Repellent (both are available through leatherstuff.com). They're both wax free and silicon free, which is great for leather, and I think they really work well.

Hope that helps!

Have you tried Heritage Leathercare. This is a great product that cleans, feeds and polishes your great looking boots and will also put on a water resistant finish. Oh, and it is easy to use as well as being economical. Check it out at www.heritagepolish.com/leather.html
